Johnny Depp is showing off a new set of pearly whites a year after photos of his “rotten” teeth went viral.
Yes, most of the media coverage of Depp hasn’t exactly been flattering in recent years.
But unlike the consequences of your confusion trial against ex-wife Amber Heardin this case, the Pirates of the Caribbean star managed to find a solution to the problem and close the matter.
Johnny Depp’s Teeth: What’s Going On There?
When he appeared at the Cannes Film Festival in 2023Depp’s teeth have become a subject of fascination on social media.
“Johnny Depp’s teeth are literally ROTTING,” wrote one X (formerly Twitter) user, according to Page Six.
“Johnny Depp looks like someone grabbed his teeth and painted them black,” tweeted another.
“Why do I have to see close-up pictures of Johnny Depp’s teeth against my will?” asked a third.
“Seeing that picture of Johnny Depp’s teeth on my[timeline]has ruined my mood. Enough Twitter for me,” a fourth chimed in.
Depp does not appear in public almost as often as before, so the issue of their teeth was largely forgotten after Cannes.
This week, however, the issue resurfaced thanks to an unexpected Instagram post.
Has Depp’s dental drama been resolved?
As you can see, Depp was in his natural habitat recently (a bar in the Bahamas). And an Instagram video posted by a local bartender showed the star sporting some new and improved teethers.
“Am I also sure (sic) to see that his teeth are brighter than ever???” wrote one commenter.
“Is it me or do his teeth look straighter?” asked another.
“Definitely got her teeth done! Looks so pretty,” commented a third.
What caused the damage to Depp’s teeth?
So Depp appears to have fixed his teeth. But what went wrong with them in the first place?
“He has wear and tear, which has been a cumulative effect over a lifetime,” celebrity dentist Dr. Apa recently told Page Six.
“Use it like this — sometimes we see it in people in their 30s in really aggressive cases, and sometimes we see it in cases like Depp.”
The dentist speculated that the stains on Depp’s teeth were likely a result of the actor’s known penchant for cigarettes, coffee and red wine.
Depp had problems with his teeth for some time and discussed the issue openly in a 1995 interview with Debut magazine.
“I have a lot of cavities. I had a root canal eight years ago that’s still not finished. It’s like a little rotten stump,” Depp said at the time.
“It’s like when Indians made something with beads, they always put imperfections,” he added. “I’m proud of that.”
Fortunately, it looks like Johnny has solved the problem, possibly with a pair of Depp dentures.
The rest of your public image may not be so easy to remedy. But hey — slow progress is better than no progress at all!
