Now THIS is a storm — more than 100 pounds of cocaine washed up along the Florida coast in the wake of Hurricane Debby.
While Debby didn’t make a direct attack on the Sunshine State, she did raid several stashes of narcotics that washed up on or near Florida beaches — including 70 pounds of cocaine in the Florida Keys village of Islamorada.
Authorities say a total of 25 packages — valued at more than $1 million — were found by a good Samaritan… and a week later another batch of coconuts turned up near Everglades City.
The Collier County Sheriff said the 55-pound fish was found floating among mangroves in the Gulf of Mexico.
Cops think the coke had been in the water for a long time because some of the packages had barnacles on them. We don’t think that would hurt the estimated street value of $625,000.
Law enforcement authorities know that smugglers intentionally make deliveries to pre-determined locations where the drugs are to be retrieved by other smugglers or traffickers.
However, hurricanes tend to disrupt the process, as rough seas can push the drugs off target.
Florida… come for the beaches, stay for the white “sand”.
