After that, there were seven—the surprise arrival of Jenn’s ex-boyfriend rocks the mansion, with one man threatening to back out and another backing out, leaving Jenn unsure about everything.
Episode of the final week of The single woman ended with the dramatic arrival of By Jenn Tran ex-boyfriend Matt to crash production on her quest to find love — asking if he can be part of the remaining 11 contestants. The stunning arrival shook Jenn to her core, but it hit the guys even harder.
Jenn appeared on the Cocktail Get together to let them know what had happened and that Matt was asking to join. She then left them reeling as she went off to speak to her ex, who expressed his readiness to get engaged and spend the rest of his life together with her.
The internal fallout with the guys was palpable, with some going as far as to walk away, course, and even consider walking. Devin had the strongest response, becoming offended and angry before he even realized what Jenn might do about Matt.
“She cried about the past. And now she’s going to let that past back into her life in such a simple way,” he declared. “If she does that, I’m out.”
To the entire group, he added, “If she walks in here with that man, that rose means nothing to me.” Devin was still wearing the One-to-One Rose he received last week.

Because ultimately, he may have toned it down a bit, or 300, because it was Matt who came in to talk to the guys about his conversation with Jenn.
Significantly, why make him do that? We all know the production is heavy on this one, but why did we want that potentially confrontational moment?
Either way, Matt let them know that Jenn had advised him in no uncertain terms that she saw her future in that room along with her 11 remaining suitors… implying that there was no more room for Matt on her journey. The companions were a little sarcastic, a lot relieved—and in Devin’s case, possibly a little embarrassed by his ill-timed response, too.
The great news is that by rejecting Matt, she galvanized enthusiasm and confidence in her remaining suitors, with them feeling more validated and desired than ever. Then, in the quick Rose Ceremony, she cut John and Thomas. After that, there were 9.
From there, it was time to kick off the real fifth week of the show, which featured two one-on-one dates, a disgusting group date, a walkout, and a near-complete emotional breakdown from our bachelorette.
The week started off strong with Jonathan scoring his first One-on-One and having to face his fears. After Jenn wasn’t too happy with how unsupportive Sam M was when she expressed her fear of jumping off a building a few weeks ago… now she’s laughing at Jonathan’s fear of helicopters and heights?
It wasn’t a surprising look, as she seemed to indicate a lack of empathy for his fears. At the same time, Jonathan seemed determined to overcome them for her, and mentioned that she was sympathetic in this, so it’s not precisely the same. It wasn’t addressed in the show either — just a hmmm kind of problem.

Despite the rocky start (in our eyes), the date was about seeing if they could take their fun relationship to new heights, and they certainly did that at dinner, as they talked about past relationships and trust issues.
Jonathan has been accused of being emotionally manipulative and controlling, which he says destroyed him to his “core,” while Jenn has been manipulated and had her thoughts and emotions twisted against her in previous relationships. So much of life is learning how we can process our hurt so we can live with it, and discovering others who can too.
They talked about putting up fronts of energy and confidence based largely on their difficult childhoods, so at the very least somebody of their lives seemed to have it collectively… even if it was themselves. Overall, it was cathartic, meaningful, and enough for a rose and a kiss under a decidedly to fake storm.
Heavy manufacturing often gets a little too heavy. Leave things as they are, because they usually are. How much manipulation actually needs to be done to make a good TV?
A bad group date left Jenn feeling much the same way after an impromptu conversation with one of her suitors left her filled with an unimaginable amount of self-doubt about herself and her journey.
However, first, Jenn and the guys proved that they weren’t the cleanest fingers on the farm when they completely failed to think of opening a gate to herd the sheep through it. Instead, the sheep were herding them… in fact, they didn’t seem to have a plan at all, which is why it was such a hilarious fail.
The encounter took place on a farm in New Zealand with the “winner” being dubbed the Most Priceless Farmer and getting more time with Jenn. Well, Devin was getting a lot of that the whole method, which was to get under the pores and skin of the other temporary farmhands throwing literal sh-t, and then cutting it out of sheep.
Ultimately, much to their surprise, the ranchers — who had also been married for 45 years — chose Devin as the MVF, meaning he had a lot more time for making out, while the salty boys went back to the property to have some… well, we can’t go there.

That night, however, things took a turn for the worse for Jenn when Austin came up to her and advised her that he shouldn’t assume he could give her everything she deserves at this point. He mentioned that watching how far the guys are in the competition showed him that he wasn’t there.
Now, was this someone saving face before a possible rejection by getting kicked out first? Or was he or she actually someone who isn’t capable of taking the next step in a relationship and yet went on a show that (ideally) ends in an engagement? How many of these people simply need to be part of Bachelor Nation for sponsorship offers and to explore that dating pool?
After her departure, Jenn fell into an emotional tailspin, worried that others might leave, that she wouldn’t be enough for any of the guys left, and that they would all “see how worthless I am.” It was an especially vulnerable and revealing moment about how hard she probably works on herself behind that happy, fun, outgoing Jenn facade.
Finally, she was inspired to just be real, and so she was. She opened up to all the guys collectively, and none of them rejected her individually. Instead, the second one brought her closer to everyone. As such, she didn’t give out any Roses that night.
Look, producers! You don’t have to pressure rain to get in a romantic second. You just wanted to attend Jenn’s one-on-one with Grant and Mother Nature would take care of it for you.
The two loved a horseback riding experience for a rain-swept lunch on the beach, and it’s the kind of experience that simply makes it more endearing. From there, it was time for them — like Jonathan’s date — to see how much more depth they could uncover.
At the dinner, Grant opened up about his father’s 30-year battle with addiction and alcoholism, revealing that he has now been sober for two months, the first time in Grant’s life. Growing up in the shadow of addiction shaped much of who Grant is, as well as some of his beliefs, as he felt he had been lied to his entire life.
“My mission in life is to be the person my father wasn’t,” he advised Jenn in a vulnerable and powerful moment.
Eventually, their connection strengthened enough for Grant to get the second rose of the week, leaving only a few extra ones up for grabs at the Rose Ceremony.

Once again, Jenn canceled the Cocktail Party (does it seem like half of them get canceled every season? Are they too expensive to produce?), telling the guys that after her vulnerable breakdown and their help, she had a new understanding of herself, her needs, and where things stand.
With Austin already having fled, the dangerous information was that only one—and only one—man would be left standing without Rose at the end of the night. Talk about humiliating and deeply uncomfortable. No one needs to be in that place.
The present set us up for this by showing poor Dylan worried that he wanted some alone time with her to deepen their personal connection. Guess what? That didn’t happen and he was shown the door. Thanks for stopping by…now, bye!
A new teaser for the rest of the season reveals heightened emotions, more emotional turmoil — and Jenn rejecting a man’s proposal before it even happens!
