The captain of a sailboat who fell into the sea while trying to open the sails was rescued from the sea in Fokida on Saturday night and has been missing since.
Earlier yesterday afternoon, the Port Authorities of Itea, Aegio, Patras and Galaxidi were informed by the Uniform Search and Rescue Coordination Center (EKSED) at the headquarters of LS-EL.AKT. for the mismanagement of the said sailboat in the maritime area of Psaromyta Erateini, with a total of five Greeks on board.
Under the coordination of EKSED, searches were initiated in the area by two patrol boats and two LS-EL AKT patrol vehicles, an Air Force Super Puma helicopter and private vehicles.
The Greek captain of the sailing vessel was located by the cargo ship “Anastasia”, which was detained by EKSED, and was picked up by a patrol boat from LS-EL.AKT., which transported him safely to the port of Aegion.
He was subsequently picked up by an EKAB ambulance and transferred for preventive reasons to the Égio General Hospital for first aid.
The remaining four occupants were transferred to dry land by the “Emergente” boat and then to the Égide General Hospital.
The sailboat, with the help of the boat “Moby Dick”, sailed close to the coast of Krioneri Akrata, where it anchored safely.
The Patras Central Port Authority, which is conducting the preliminary investigation, has banned his departure.
