The US Department of Defense announced yesterday, Friday, the sending of additional forces to the Middle East region, where warships and fighter jets are advancing, following threats from Iran and its allies Hamas and Hezbollah.
US military forces have been put on high alert after Iran threatened to retaliate for the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniya in Tehran days ago as the war in the Gaza Strip continues.
Similar measures were also taken in early April, ahead of Iran’s April 13 missile and drone strike on Israel. But this time, in a possible combined Hezbollah strike from Lebanon, the mission of US forces to intercept missiles and drones will be even more difficult, given the pro-Iranian group’s large arsenal and its proximity to Israel.
On April 13, Israel announced that it had shot down nearly 300 drones and missiles with the help of the US and other allies.
