Christopher Gregor addressed his ex, the boy’s mother, for the first time since his death in court – before she made an emotional statement, saying: “We can only hope karma catches up with him quickly.”
Christopher Gregor, the New Jersey father accused of murdering his 6-year-old son after forcing him to run on a treadmill while increasing the speed, has been convicted.
After a month-long trial and nearly two days of jury deliberations, Gregor was found guilty of child endangerment and aggravated manslaughter for the death of his son, Corey Micciolo. Gregor was found not guilty of first-degree murder, however.
On Friday, he received 20 years for aggravated manslaughter, of which he will need to serve 85 percent before being eligible for parole. For child endangerment, he received five years, with 858 days credited. The judge ruled that the two sentences should be served consecutively.
While Gregor did not testify in his own defense during the trial, he did make a statement to the court before he was sentenced — first addressing his son’s mother and ex, Breanna Micciolo.
“I’m so sorry you lost Corey.” Convicted baby killer #ChristopherGregor tears as she spoke about her sentence saying “it hurts me… that I may have harmed a very powerful person in my life.”

“Breanna, we haven’t spoken since Corey passed away. With all that said, I just want you to know that I’m sorry we lost Corey. He was, to put it simply, the best,” he began. “I know we will miss him for the rest of our lives.”
Calling his time with Corey “the best years of his life,” Gregor remembered his son as a “young, happy, energetic, loving, radiant boy” who “blossomed” in his short life.
“That’s probably how I remember him. Corey, wherever you are, I just have to say I’m happy for you and everything you’ve done. In the last few months of your life, the three of us — Breanna, Corey and I — spent more time together than we did apart,” he continued.
Recalling their time together, he said: “I noticed how much Breanna loved Corey, how much he loved her and how well we were able to co-parent together. Those memories and all the good times are what I remember and they help me get through the hard days. I hope they help you too, Breanna.”
“I am sorry that you would consider that I could have done this to our son and it pains me to know that you see my actions in these months together as naive, that I could have hurt a very important person in my life,” Gregor continued, before immediately addressing the treadmill incident.
“What happened on March 20th was unforgivable. To you, Breanna, your loved ones and mine, I must apologize that you had to see Corey treated this way. He never deserved it. I realize that one second will overshadow all the others, but it is not representative of who I am, who Corey was, and your relationship with me and him,” Gregor said. “I must assure you that on April 2nd (the day Corey died), I did nothing to cause Corey’s death. I did not hurt my son. I loved him and I still love him. I regret not taking him to the hospital sooner. I did not know how sick he was, I just thought he was exhausted.”
“Corey is gone. He had so much to offer this world and he still can. What we do in his memory, for his memory, things he would want us to do, that’s all we have now,” he concluded, before asking the judge to “sentence me well” and take into “consideration my entire life and not just based on the 12 days” from the treadmill incident to the boy’s death.

Relations on Brenna’s side, however, pressed for the maximum possible sentence.
“What he said will not be true… if he has the prospect of doing it again, he will do it again,” the boy’s grandfather said. His grandmother referred to him as a “monster” who she would never forgive.
In a truly emotional moment, Breanna took the witness stand to speak in court — wearing a T-shirt with her son’s face on it, as she said she was a “defender for justice.”
“I hate you, I will never forgive you.” Breanna Miccolo, Corey’s mother, makes a statement of emotional distress during Corey’s sentencing #ChristopherGregor.

“I am here to plead for the justice Corey deserves and to push for the maximum sentence for Christopher Gregor, whose actions have inflicted irreparable damage on our lives,” she began, calling their relationship a “traumatic journey outlined by manipulation, abuse, and ultimately, unspeakable loss.”
“I am here to be your voice and tell your story… you have never seen the defendant shed a tear for Corey in the last three and a half years since he killed him and today was an act,” she continued, addressing Gregor’s claim. “I do not believe a word he says and I do not accept any apology. His only regret was for himself because he was caught and convicted.”
“He never had an ounce of affection for Corey… he never hugged him, never complimented him, never told him he was pleased with him or that he did a great job,” Micciolo said. “He punished Corey every chance he got.”

“Instead of being a great role model for Corey, he decided to beat him to death. Why? Were you jealous of him? Did you hate me so much that you took it out on Corey?” she asked, before calling him a “monster.”
“We can only hope that karma catches up with him quickly,” she said, emotion washing over her as she spoke. “Are you so crazy that you just convinced yourself that you didn’t do this? I hate you. I will never forgive you. You stole all my potential for happiness and I will never have my son again. My daughter will never know her brother. My boyfriend will never be the father that the defendant should have been to my son.”
She added that she believes Gregor “will kill me” if he gets out of prison.

During the trial, the jurors I noticed surveillance footage from the Atlantic Heights Clubhouse in Barnegat, NJ, dated March 20, 2021, where Gregor — who did not testify at trial — was seen forcing the boy to use a treadmill. Corey fell off the machine six times in surveillance footage, but was later pulled back onto the treadmill and forced to continue working. At one point in the video, Gregor even appeared to take a bite out of his son.
The boy died in hospital on April 2, the same day he was brought there by his father. Gregor reportedly left his son alone in his last momentsbefore leaving the hospital completely and never answering calls from his ex — the boy’s mother — or the police again.
While Gregor’s authorized team suggested that Corey died of sepsis from pneumonia, a consulting physician decided, from a series of bruises and marks on the child, that the “pattern, distribution and character of the injuries were due to continued abuse, and concluded that the cause of death was murder.”
Prosecutors alleged that it was his father’s abuse that caused his death.
