Aerosmith’s incredible tour is coming to an abrupt end. The famous rock band has made the “heartbreaking” decision to retire from touring due to Steven Tylerirreparable vocal injury.
The band’s verified social media accounts shared the devastating news on Friday, nearly four months after the band shared new dates for their Peace Out Farewell Tour following their lead singer’s vocal injury. But after more than five decades, the band had to make the decision to end their tour due to the fact that Tyler, 76, is unable to fully recover from his vocal injury to continue.
“As you know, Steven’s voice is an instrument like no other. He has spent months working tirelessly to get his voice back to where it was before his injury,” the statement read, in part. “We have watched him struggle, despite having the best medical team by his side. Unfortunately, it is clear that a full recovery from his vocal injury is not possible. We have made the painful and difficult, but necessary decision – as a band of brothers – to retire from the touring stage.”
The band’s statement went on to thank the fans who have been with them since the beginning, as well as their “team of experts” and “the thousands of talented people who made our historic runs possible.” The band also extended a “final thank you to you – the best fans on planet Earth.”
Prior to the announcement, Aerosmith, who released their latest album, Music from another dimension!in 2012, was supposed to resume on September 20 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. And it was in September 2023 that the band had to suspend their tour — just a week after the tour began — until “sometime in 2024” after Tyler suffered a vocal injury that the band said was “more serious than initially thought.”
“His doctor has confirmed that in addition to the damage to his vocal cords, he has a fractured larynx, which requires ongoing care,” Aerosmith said in a statement. statement published on the band’s Instagram page“He is receiving the best medical treatment available to ensure his recovery is speedy, but given the nature of the fracture, he has been told that patience is essential.”
Tyler, who suffered a vocal injury while performing at the UBS Arena in Elmont, New York, added: “I’m heartbroken that I won’t be there with Aerosmith, my brothers and the incredible Black Crowes, hanging out with the best fans in the world.”
