Matt Damon may be the father of a girl, but to the relief of boyfriends, he is not scary.
Damon, 53, and his wife for almost 20 years, Luciana BarrosoThey are the parents of three daughters: Isabella, 18, Gia, 15, and Stella, 13. He is also stepfather to Alexia, Barroso’s daughter from a previous relationship. The Martian actor appeared in SiriusXM‘s Radio Andy on Thursday and spoke to the host Andy Cohen56, on his best advice for being a father to a girl.
“Oh, man. I don’t know,” Damon replied about his best advice. “I wouldn’t deign to give advice to anyone unless I just tried to listen and be helpful. I mean, at the end of the day, it’s about building self-esteem. Because, you know, 99% of the decisions they make, you’re not going to be there.”
Advice aside, Cohen wanted to know what kind of father Damon is when his daughters “bring a boy home and say, ‘I’m dating this…'”
“Oh, I’m fine. I’m cool with it. You know what I mean?” Damon replied, prompting Cohen to ask, “You don’t go all Boston, like, ‘What are you doing with my daughter?'”
“No, no, no. That’s like an old trope that I think people, you know, like to use. You know, parents like to joke about it amongst themselves, I think, sometimes, but no,” Damon explained.
He even gave his seal of approval to his eldest daughter’s boyfriend.
“She has an amazing boyfriend who Lucy and I just love,” Damon said of Alexia. “We love the guy and to see her making that kind of choice, it really is the best thing ever.”
On Wednesday, Damon brought his wife and four daughters to the premiere from your Apple TV+ movie, The Instigatorsat Lincoln Center in New York City. The ladies dressed up for Damon’s big night.
Damon spoke to ET’s Rachel Smith at the premiere, and he talked about how time flies when you’re a parent.
“I know, it happens so fast,” he said of the young women at his side.
He added: “It happens kind of slowly and then really quickly, in a beautiful way.”
