Over time, pure electric cars will become increasingly affordable, at least in the smaller categories that are in demand for daily urban/suburban commuting. We are already seeing companies introducing models that make room for a rationalised pricing policy. A typical case is the BYD DOLPHIN electric, which is offered by the Sfakianakis Group for a certain number of cars at an attractive price. The young model combines advanced technology with environmental sensitivity and, with a base price of €26,380, is the most affordable electric car in its category. Thus, with the government subsidy from the “Moving Electric 3” programme, the base price of the DOLPHIN is calculated at €19,998, which is the price of a car with a conventional or hybrid propulsion system, as highlighted. In the case of collecting an old vehicle, the price is further reduced by €2,000, to €17,998.
Editions: In particular, combining the price with the rich equipment of the basic Comfort version (for reference we mention: automatic transmission, metallic color, 17″ aluminum wheels, electrically adjustable seats and Vegan leather upholstery, 12.8″ infotainment screen with navigation system, 360° panoramic camera, heat pump and more than 20 comfort and safety systems), the DOLPHIN is the unbeatable proposition in the Greek car market. The fun character is emphasized by the modern colors available. The Comfort edition comes with 6 color options, Cream White, Skiing White, Urban Gray, Jet Black, and for those who want to stand out Coral Pink and Amethyst Purple. The Design version with standard panoramic sunroof is offered in 4 different two-tone colors, which create a sense of exclusivity. The Atlantis Gray body color option is combined with a Jet Black roof and hood, while the Coral Pink, Surfing Blue and Skiing White colors are combined with the corresponding Urban Gray.
In addition to the two-tone bodywork and panoramic sunroof, the Design version features, in addition to the Comfort, alloy wheels with body-colored accents (for the Atlantis Gray, Coral Pink and Surf Blue colors), tinted rear windows and wireless smartphone charging as standard equipment. The price of the DOPLHIN Design is 28,380 euros (21,514 euros with the “Move Electric 3” subsidy).
Technology: BYD DOLPHIN’s technology is one of its most important innovations, making it one of the most affordable and advanced electric vehicles on the market. It incorporates the Blade Battery, a 60.4 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, which offers a range of up to 427 km (WLTP). This battery stands out for its safety and durability, having successfully passed the Nail Penetration Test, known as the “Everest” of battery safety tests.
BYD DOLPHIN is based on the e-Platform 3.0, which integrates the 8-in-1 electric drive system. This system includes the Vehicle Control Unit, Battery Management System, Power Distribution Unit, Drive Motor, Motor Controller, Transmission, DC-DC Converter and On-Board Charger. The result is a system efficiency of 89%, delivering optimal performance and an excellent driving experience.
The motor is a permanent magnet synchronous motor with an output of 150 kW (204 hp) and a torque of 310 Nm. It accelerates the DOLPHIN from 0 to 100 km/h in 7 seconds and the top speed is electronically limited to 160 km/h. The four driving profiles – Sport, Normal, Economy, Snow – adapt the vehicle’s functions to the driving conditions and the driver’s needs, while the disc brakes on all wheels (ventilated front) ensure short braking distances.
BYD DOLPHIN’s Vehicle-To-Load (V2L) technology allows external devices to be charged with a power of 3.3 kW, making the vehicle a mobile power station. An integrated heat pump is included as standard, increasing thermal efficiency by up to 15% in winter by harnessing waste heat from the drivetrain, cabin and battery.
The BYD DOLPHIN also features a full range of driver assistance systems, such as Predictive Collision Warning, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Lane Departure Prevention. In addition, Adaptive Cruise Control and Intelligent Cruise Control enhance driving pleasure and safety, while the external camera system provides 360-degree panoramic visibility.
The Euro NCAP organisation has subjected the BYD DOLPHIN to safety tests and has awarded it the maximum five-star rating. In fact, the DOLPHIN scored 89% in terms of passenger protection, one of the highest in its category. Standard equipment includes front and side airbags, curtain airbags and one fitted between the front seats.
Important: All BYD models come as standard with a 6-year/150,000km full manufacturer warranty, an 8-year/200,000km battery warranty and an 8-year/150,000km electric motor warranty. For orders placed until the end of 2024, a 3-year free service is also offered.
