Former ‘Bachelorette’ Charity Lawson made it to the ‘Dancing with the Stars’ finals, but had to settle for fourth place, behind Ariana Madix, Jason Mraz and winner Xochitl Gomez.

The show is among the most demanding in reality TV, with celebrities paired with skilled dancers and then putting in hours and hours of training to put on a series of new dances each week. And some stars do it while maintaining their regular work schedules!
Lawson also alleged that she was bullied online during her time on the show, which surprised Burke.
“Is it impressive? I don’t know if it’s impressive. I feel like it was expected to some extent,” Lawson countered. At the same time, she was anticipating a more appreciative audience response on the dance show favorite than what she had already been subjected to by Bachelor Nation followers.
“I arrived here in Dancing with the stars fan base like, ‘This is gonna be a piece of cake,’ only to be — almost to the point where it was much worse than Bachelor It is single”, she stated.
“I used to get death threats by now,” Lawson continued, “for not performing well enough, for being indecent, for being arrogant, for being the biggest slut in the cast. It’s crazy!”

In part, Lawson believed this had to do with some of the video packages, where she appeared to be “bragging and boasting about my scores,” with the reality TV star arguing, “I’m only talking about them because (the producers) asked me to.”
“That was really annoying after I started seeing my packages painted like that,” Lawson lamented. “It’s almost warping viewers into this thing of, ‘All she cares about is the scores,’ ‘She thinks she’s better than everyone else.’”
Lawson claimed that hateful comments hit his social media pages in addition to the official DWTS pages, prompting her to go to her fellow craftsman, Artem Chigvintsev, who went to battle for her with the show’s producers. Lawson claimed that while she blocked and filtered her personal pages, no one did so on the show’s official pages. TooFab has reached out to the producers for comment.
“I needed to let Artem know, ‘This is what we’re unfortunately dealing with and what we’re doing,’” she added. “For those who look at comparisons to every other contestant this season, they don’t have that below their comments… I’m just standing there and being called a bitch.”

Becoming emotional in her exchange with Burke, Lawson said she felt compelled to speak out so others could realize “the distinction that I have to go through this life as a black woman and be on a reality show. It’s like the same things just aren’t protected.”
Lawson said things got so dark in her personal mental health that she began hoping to “retrace my steps and get eliminated.” She told Burke, “It’s a really dark place.”
When Burke asked Lawson if she thought her race impacted her performance on the season, Lawson simply replied, “Yes.”
Lawson came in fourth place in season 32. She made it to the finals, where she defeated Alyson Hannigan, but finished behind Ariana Madix in third, second-place Jason Mraz, and winner Xochitl Gomez.
Season 33 of Dancing with the stars begins Tuesday, September 17 at 8pm ET on ABC, Disney+ and Hulu.
