The “bell” for very high fire risk (risk category 4) tomorrow Tuesday (30/7) is rung by the General Secretariat for Civil Protection, for the regions of Attica and Crete, as well as for several regions in the rest of Greece.
In particular, according to the Fire Risk Prediction Map, Very high fire danger is forecast for the following regions tomorrow:
- Region of Attica (including the island of Kythira)
- Central Greece Region (PE Boeotia, PE Evia, PE Fthiotida)
- Peloponnese region (Corinthia region, Argolis region, Laconia region)
- Thessaly region (Larissa region, Magnesia region, Sporades region)
- Central Macedonia Region (PE Thessaloniki, PE Kilkis)
- Region of Crete
- Ionian Islands Region (Corfu Prefecture)
- North Aegean Region (Lesvos Region, Chios Region, Samos Region, Ikaria Region)
The general secretariat of Civil Protection (civilprotection.gov.gr) of the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection has informed the competent government bodies involved in the official service, as well as the Regions and Municipalities of the above-mentioned areas, to increase the readiness of civil protection in order to immediately face any fire incidents.

Recommendations to citizens
At the same time, the GPP recommends that citizens take special care and avoid outdoor activities that could cause fires due to negligence, such as burning dry grass and branches or cleaning waste, using machines that produce sparks such as circular saws, welding devices, using outdoor barbecues, smoking bees, throwing lit cigarettes, etc. In addition, it should be remembered that during the fire protection season, burning fields is prohibited.
Therefore, the 2nd phase of operational readiness of the PS and there will be aerial surveillance patrols, as well as patrols of firefighters, police and military forces.
Additionally, the Fire Brigades of the Regional Units mentioned above remain on partial alert, to meet the increased demand for services, which may arise due to a very high fire risk (risk category 4).
At the same time, for the above-mentioned areas, the Civil Protection Action Plan remains in force to address the risks of forest fires, according to which, among other things, the implementation of the preventive measure banning the circulation of vehicles and the permanence of hikers in national forests, forests and “vulnerable” areas is foreseen.
To the Fire Department appeals to citizens:
- Take special care and avoid any activity that could cause fire.
- Follow the information on forest fire prevention available on the website and on the official Fire Department accounts, Facebook and Twitter.
- If you notice a fire, you should immediately notify the Fire Department by dialing 199.
