The day is barely dawning for the suffering Evia, as the fire that broke out yesterday is still raging uncontrollably today. A large fire front is raging between Krieza and Petries, with forest burning and thick black smoke covering the entire area. The aim is to keep the flames away from homes.
At approximately 5:30 a.m., 112 rang again, with the message informing residents to evacuate the Krieza area. Yesterday, 112 rang 5 times.
All the residents are on their feet and trying to help the firefighters who are fighting a titanic battle.
“Today in Evia we are experiencing difficult conditions, as there were and are two or three settlements that were threatened in the first and second waves. We carried out preventive evacuations, evacuations with the help of the police,” said the Minister for Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, Vassilis Kikilias.
“The fire reached the dry lake and the fields in the first front, cut there and then you see a second wave. Everything that remains is being worked on and will be worked on throughout the night,” he noted, declaring himself “satisfied” with the response “even in the most difficult conditions”.
“We will stay here until we finish our work and verify,” Mr. Kikilias stressed after thanking the regional governor of Central Greece, the mayor of Kymi-Aliveriou, ND MP K. Karabatsolis, the forester, the volunteers and all those working together to extinguish the fire.
