And Aykroyd is “very proud” of the female cast Ghostbuster reboot despite negative fan reaction.
The actor — who co-wrote and starred in both original films — was an executive producer on the 2016 remake, directed by Paulo Feig and starred Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones as a new crop of Ghostbusters and Aykroyd is adamant that he loved the film, despite it receiving negative reviews and a vicious response from online trolls.
He said People Magazine: “I liked the movie that Paul Feig made with those amazing women. I was mad at them at the time because I was supposed to be a producer there and I didn’t do my job and I didn’t argue about costs. And maybe it cost more than it should have, and they all do. All these movies cost. But man, I liked that movie.”
Aykroyd went on to add, “I thought the villain at the end was great. I loved him so much. And of course, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones, Melissa McCarthy and Kristen Wiig, you’ll never do better than that.”
“So I will go on record as saying that I am very proud that I was able to license that film and have a hand and a part in it, and I fully support it, and I do not tarnish it in any way. I think it works very well out of all the ones that have been made.”

Following the film’s release, cast member Leslie Jones spoke openly about the online abuse she received, stating that much of the backlash was racist and misogynistic.
In his memories Leslie F******* Jonesshe wrote: “Why are people being so mean to each other? How can you sit there and type ‘I want to kill you.’ Who does that? Sad keyboard warriors who lived in their mothers’ basements hated the fact that this sacred work of perfect art now featured — gasp! horror! — women in the lead roles.”
“The worst part of all, of course, was that one of the main characters was a black woman. For some men, that was the last straw.”
