SYRIZA – The Socialist Party unequivocally condemns the deadly attack against civilians in the Golan Heights, which blatantly violates international humanitarian law, and expresses its sincere condolences to the families of the victims, according to a statement from the Press Office.
“We express our strong concern about the continued escalation of tension in the Middle East, which significantly increases the risk of conflagration across the region.
The UN, the EU and international actors must abandon the passive attitude of observing developments and take the necessary initiatives to immediately cease these aggressive actions and demonstrate the necessary self-restraint on the part of all parties involved. At the same time, the international community must actively demand, by supporting the relevant initiatives of the UN Secretary-General, an end to Israeli military operations in Gaza with an immediate ceasefire and the release of hostages, as well as a response to the humanitarian crisis.
This latest development confirms the conclusion that the resolution of the Palestinian issue remains the “key” to calming the crisis in the region. It is therefore imperative to restart credible negotiations between Israelis and Palestinians for a two-state solution based on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem, the capital of Palestine.
Otherwise, the risk of a widespread conflict in the Middle East will continue to increase, with devastating consequences for regional stability and security”, says SYRIZA PS.
