Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis expressed his deep regret over the deaths of innocent children in the Golan Heights at the start of his regular meeting with President of the Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou.
Mr Mitsotakis said that developments in the Middle East prove once again the need for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, which, he stressed, will also involve the northern Israel-Lebanon front.
“The international community cannot remain indifferent to this humanitarian tragedy that is taking place in Gaza,” he noted, adding that Greece is working systematically in this regard.
“Attention focused on price domestication”
In terms of precision, the Prime Minister highlighted that the government’s focus remains on the price domestication front.
The Prime Minister said that “the indications we have are encouraging that in the month of June there was also a relative de-escalation of prices in supermarkets” and stressed that the government’s network of measures had started to bear fruit. As he said, checks continue across the supply chain.
“The government is ready at any time to intervene whenever distortions are found in the energy market”
Mr Mitsotakis said the government was closely monitoring developments in the energy market. He said there had been a sharp rise in prices in Eastern Europe and the Balkans.
“Energy producers have clearly seen skyrocketing profits. The government will tax these profits, sending the message that the Greek consumer cannot afford any dysfunctions in an energy market that, at the European level, has not yet reached the point of functioning that we would like,” he noted.
“I am pleased that in recent days, possibly as a result of government announcements, prices have returned to normal levels, but everyone should know that the government will be ready at any time to intervene whenever market distortions and unjustified profits are found. of the proper functioning of the wholesale market”, the Prime Minister stressed.
