Robert Downey Jr. shocked Marvel Cinematic Universe fans when it was announced on Saturday that he would return as Doctor Doom in a new “Avengers” film — and the big reveal was done in classic comic book style!
The legendary actor appeared as the famous supervillain in a skimpy costume with a mask over his face at the 2024 San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday night. The packed audience had no idea Robert was behind the silver masks as he stood at the entrance and center stage in front of other hooded figures.
Take a look at the video… Robert suddenly ripped off his masks and spread his arms like wings as he triumphantly looked down at the group. The fans went absolutely wild, cheering and clapping and capturing cellphone footage of the unimaginable moment.
President of Marvel Studios Kevin Feige had the distinction of revealing that Robert would reprise his role as Doom in the ‘Avengers’ sequel, “Avengers: Apocalypse.” Feige also teased a second ‘Avengers’ film, “Avengers: Secret Wars,” and stated that the Russo Brothers would direct both films.
