Erica Mena on Co-Parenting, Music Video Career, and Colorism Controversy
Mena has been open about the current status of co-parenting with her ex-husband Safaree Samuels. When Cam asked her how things were going, she said: “I want it to get better. I pray every day that it will get better.” Erica recently accused Safaree of neglecting and improperly “cleanliness” her children while they were in her care. The former reality star said she will continue her motherly duties until Safaree takes over. Additionally, she talked about her music video career. She said she was “skinny” and didn’t really feel sexy when she started, but she “I knew (she) had what it took.”
Newton also asked her about the colorism controversy with her ‘Love and Hip Hop’ co-star Spice. As previously reported by The Shadow RoomMena received backlash after referring to the Jamaican artist as a “blue monkey.” She said, “My actions have a much greater impact than I ever imagined.” She added that she was “disappointed that (she) has let women of color down.” Erica said she would have liked more of Spice’s behavior to be shown so viewers would have a better understanding of why she was teased, but she would take “responsibility” regardless. Cam praised her, responding, “I’m glad you said that.” Erica added: “It was all wrong in the choice of words.”
Spice responds to Erica Mena’s comments
Spice later jumped into the comments of The Shade Room’s Instagram report and responded. The singer’s lengthy message read:
“Bye girl, at least you confessed that you asked to talk to me, because on a normal day you couldn’t sit at my table because I knew you think you’re better than dark skinned girls. I heard how you talked about me behind my back, you got caught on camera that day.” Spice continued: “Take me out of the equation since you still have a Victim mentality in our situation. What was the reason you called the prosecutors in Miami black animals and monkeys, why did you call Johnni Blaze a black monkey?(Everything is on Google)”
The 41-year-old added: “You brought your own son into the conversation, and you came to that table to talk about the Amaras twins, no one can provoke you into saying racial slurs. Remember, ‘You are a repeat offender,’ you have no remorse for a culture that has put millions in your pocket. You could have said anything, but you chose to disrespect an entire nation. Interviews are not therapy, but move on.”
It looks like Spice and Mena are going to have problems forever.
