The rain in Paris may not have seriously affected yesterday’s Olympic Games opening ceremony, but the same was not true today.
Tennis, which takes place at Roland Garros, was partly a “victim” of the rainy weather in the French capital.
The games scheduled on the complex’s two main courts, Philippe Chatrier and Suzanne Lenglen, are being played normally because they have a roof, but the others have not even started yet.
Among them, the game between Stefanos Tsitsipas and Belgian Zizou Bergs at the “Simon Mathieu”, which was postponed and will be rescheduled, probably tomorrow, if conditions allow.
There were no surprises in the completed matches. Novak Djokovic “disappeared” Australian Matthew Embden (6-0, 6-1) and awaits Rafa Nadal in the second round.
Carlos Alkarath easily overcame Lebanese Hadi Habib (6-3, 6-1), while American Taylor Fritz defeated Kazakh Alexander Bublik 6-4, 6-4.
In the women’s event, tournament favorite Iga Sfiodek of Poland eliminated Romania’s Irina-Camelia Begu 6-2, 7-5, while Italy’s Jasmine Paolini, a finalist this year at Roland Garros and Wimbledon, defeated Romania’s Ana Bogdan (7-5, 6-3).
