MG Motors to launch Baojun Cloud EV vehicle in India with a new name
MG Motor India has released a new teaser for its upcoming electric vehicle, which is based on the Baojun Cloud EV, revealing key exterior features just ahead of its festive season launch. We have seen the EV testing several times in the past few months and even patent images of the vehicle were leaked a few weeks ago.
The India-spec MG Cloud EV will feature a floating touchscreen infotainment system and a fully digital instrument cluster. These elements are consistent with the model sold under the Wuling brand in Indonesia. The dashboard, while mostly covered, features horizontal slats that run across its length, concealing the air conditioning vents. The steering wheel is a two-spoke design equipped with controls for the infotainment system.
The teaser also highlights a panoramic sunroof, and further details from the spy shots indicate slim all-LED headlights, an LED light bar connecting the headlights across the nose, and an illuminated MG logo. The EV’s interior benefits from its born-EV design, promising ample space for this five-seater model.
Additional features noted include fully reclining front seats, circular door-mounted speakers, 360-degree camera, and a suite of Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS). However, it is not yet known which of these features will be included in the India-spec model.
The MG Cloud EV combines the characteristics of a sedan and an SUV, with MG Motor India labeling it a crossover utility vehicle (CUV). The design remains minimalistic, featuring flush door handles and clean surfaces. Full-width LED light bars adorn the front and rear. The vehicle also features a large glass greenhouse and extended quarter-glass sections, complemented by sharply raked front and rear windshields.
While specific battery details for the Indian market are still under wraps, the international version of the Cloud EV offers two battery pack options – a 37.9 kWh pack with a range of 360 km and a 50.6 kWh pack providing up to 460 km. Both variants are powered by a 134 hp electric motor mounted on the front axle.
MG Motor India is expected to price the Cloud EV around Rs. 20-25 lakhs (ex-showroom). It is likely to hit showrooms around the festive season with the price announcement around the same time.
