A 35-year-old man and a 40-year-old man were arrested as members of a gang that committed robberies in nursing homes in areas of the southern suburbs of Attica, pretending to be employees of an electricity supply company, in the context of a police operation organized by the Security Subdirectorate of Southeast Attica with the assistance of officers of the OPK .E. police, at noon on Wednesday in Ano Liosia.
According to THE GREEK POLICE.as emerged from the preliminary investigation, at least since June 2024, it was constituted and integrated into a group of continuous action and with distinct and alternating functions, on a case-by-case basis, among its members.
In practice, the defendants, mainly in the morning or midday, identified their potential victims when they returned home.
They targeted elderly people whom they tricked into pretending to be employees of the electric company and convinced them to let them into their homes.
After securing their entry there, keeping their victims occupied, they artificially removed sums of money and valuables from inside.
In fact, they persuaded the elderly to wrap amounts of money and jewelry in aluminum foil to “protect” them from the impending labor and then remove them.
After searching the defendants’ homes and possessions, 350 euros, a mobile phone, as well as various jewels, valuables and accessories were found and confiscated.
From the preliminary investigation so far, 8 cases of robbery in nursing homes in the areas of Glyfada, Vouliagmeni and Voula have been discovered.
The investigation to determine the full extent of his criminal activity is ongoing.
The defendants, who in the past involved the authorities for similar crimes, were taken to the competent Public Prosecutor’s Office.
