Two years later their headline-grabbing rivalry with Maren Morris emerged, Brittany Aldean is sharing his side of the story.
During a new episode of Try this in a small town podcastthe famous wife of Jason Aldeanwith whom she shares two children, addressed her drama with the country star. Before recalling the series of events that triggered the conflict, Brittany claimed that Maren and her friends had been talking about her months before on social media.
“She has a group of friends here in Nashville that, they’re just after me for whatever reason,” Brittany alleged. “Which, to be so pro-woman and all this bullshit — you’re not, because I’ve never said a word to you and you’re coming after me.”
She continued: “Why? Because I’m an easy target? Because I’m a wife and I don’t have a stage as a platform, but I do have social media? For some reason, I offend them — I don’t know what it is.”
However, at first, Brittany said she ignored the earlier comments. “I was like, ‘Oh, whatever, I don’t care,'” she said. “They can talk. It doesn’t bother me — thick skin. Thank God, right?”
As for the heart of the matter, Brittany said the situation turned into “World War III” after she posted a video of herself before and after makeup on Instagram with the caption: “I would really like to thank my parents for not changing my gender when I went through my tomboy phase. I love this girl life.”
Brittany explained on the podcast that she was grateful her parents didn’t ask her if she wanted to “be a boy” because she liked sports, referring to gender affirmation procedures. In response, Maren referred to Brittany as “Insurrection Barbie” on Twitter, writing, “It’s so easy, like, not to be a human bastard? Sell your clip-ins and shut up, Barbie Insurrection.”
“So that was my new name, which I actually, like, like, like now, it’s okay. People actually refer to me that sometimes. It’s funny,” Brittany said on the podcast. “She called me that and then she started making fun of my business, which at the time was hair extensions. But to me, it’s like going back to the feminist movement, right — Aren’t you supposed to be about peace and love and all the inclusion and all the stuff? Why are you coming at me like that about my business? I don’t need to work. I choose to work… I’m a hard-working woman who doesn’t need to, who wants to provide for my kids and my family and that should be something to be proud of, not something to belittle.”
Brittany admitted to calling Maren “Karen Morris” in response. On the podcast, she denied accusations that her comments were transphobic and noted that she has a gay best friend. She also reiterated her stance that “children under the age of 18, in my opinion, should not be able to choose their gender, let alone have life-altering surgery.”
Brittany said, “Let them make that decision when they’re older.”
