Concerns that Washington could sharply reduce support for Ukraine next year have grown since Republican candidate Trump chose Jay D. Vance as his running mate.
Vance has repeatedly stressed his opposition to the US writing what he called “blank checks” to help Kiev counter Russian aggression.
Britain has been a strong supporter of Ukraine and that will continue under the new centre-left Labour government of Prime Minister Keir Starmer, which won a landslide election this month.
The UK and Germany are the two biggest European contributors to Ukraine in terms of military aid and the biggest direct defense spenders, committing €74.9 billion and €66.8 billion respectively in 2023, according to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute.
