The Olympic gold medal that Clyde Drexler earned as part of the famous 1992 “Dream Team” can now be all yours… and while you don’t have to be a player like The Glide to get your hands on it, you better have deep pockets!!
TMZ Sports learned… the piece of basketball history has just arrived on the block Goldin Auctions on Monday — and with a starting bid of $250,000, it’s expected to fetch a small fortune when the final gavel comes down.
It’s unclear why Drexler is parting with the piece — but he filed a letter of authenticity in April, proclaiming that he had no intention of fighting to get the award back at any point in the future. He also stated in the LOA that he would never seek a reproduction of it through the U.S. Olympic Committee.
Drexler first put his fingerprints on the award in Barcelona… when he, Michael Jordan, Lari Bird, Magic Johnson and several other Hall of Famers teamed up to defeat Croatia in the Games final after crushing the competition in the event.
Drexler and company won all eight of their meetings convincingly… and have since been considered the greatest team ever assembled.
According to the experts at Goldin, this is the first time a gold “Dream Team” has been put up for sale — and they’re confident it will likely be the last, too.
“Scarcity doesn’t even begin to describe this medal,” the experts said.
The auction officially ends on August 17th… good luck!!!
