Kate Hudson put an end to long-standing rumors.
In an appearance on Bravo’s Watch what happens liveHudson addressed speculation that she forced her co-star Matthew McConaughey to wear deodorant while filming their 2008 romantic comedy, Fool’s gold.
During Wednesday night’s episode, host Andy Cohen asked her about the “old urban legend” about McConaughey’s deodorant habits.
“No! No, he doesn’t wear deodorant,” Hudson clarified, before admitting, “And by the way, neither do I.” Hudson even joked that she had to “look for deodorant backstage” before her WWHL appearance.
Reflecting on her time working with McConaughey, she said, “My thing was I could smell him from a mile away because we were so close. We’re au naturale.” Cohen, recalling McConaughey’s previous appearance in WWHLsaid he “wouldn’t expect anything less” from either iconic actor, noting that McConaughey admitted he didn’t know what manscaping was.
In 2021, the Oscar-winning actor revealed the Maximum that he hadn’t worn deodorant in decades. “I just never wore it. No cologne, no deodorant. The women in my life, including my mother, all said, ‘Hey, your natural scent smells, one, like a man, and, two, it smells like you.'”
McConaughey’s natural scent didn’t stop Hudson from working with him. Fool’s gold It was their second film together, following the beloved 2003 romantic comedy How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.
Despite the years since its release, Hudson mentioned to Cohen that a sequel to How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days is always being considered. “I think they’re always thinking about it. All that matters would be the script and if Matthew and I were in the script,” she said. “I think we’re both totally open to it, but it’s never happened.”
