Better is the image of fire in the Philosopher of Corinth, according to the Fire Department.
Strong ground and air forces were mobilized from the very beginning as the fire spread to very dense pine forest in conditions of extreme heat.
Describing the fire, Fire Department press representative Vassilis Vathrakogiannis said:The fire really took on huge proportions from the very first moment. It developed in a dense pine forest and in an inaccessible area with flames that in several cases exceeded 25 meters. At this point the situation has improved considerably, but it is clear that we have a lot of work ahead of us until it is completely extinguished.” In fact, he noted that the Firefighters are not particularly concerned about the winds blowing in the area, stressing: “When the fire first broke out, we had relatively strong winds in the area. At this point the intensity of the winds has decreased, which certainly helped to improve the situation and, of course, promote ground and air operations.”
“In each case, no one leaves the field until the last fire is extinguished”underlined.
They do business 22 aerial vehicles (10 aircraft and 12 helicopters), 140 firefighters, 6 forestry teams and 37 vehicles. They are supporting local water bodies, GEETHA project machinery and local authorities, as well as volunteers. The fire did not threaten housing and firefighters and civil protection forces continue to fight to extinguish it.
3 firefighters injured
During the firefighting process, 3 firefighters were slightly injured and taken to Corinth Hospital. In particular, a firefighter with traumatic injuries resulting from a fall, a firefighter chief with a broken arm and a seasonal firefighter with minor burns to his hand and face.
42 agroforestry fires in the last 24 hours
There were 42 agroforestry fires in the last twenty-four hours across the country. Of these, according to the Fire Department, 30 were attended to immediately, in the initial stage. while the fire department deals with 12 more. In fact, according to Civil Protection sources, several of them required assistance from air resources.

- A fire started at 10:18 am in a forested area in Waribombi Attica. The fire was brought under control within 20 minutes and 26 firefighters, 9 vehicles and 2 aircraft responded to the scene, while assistance was provided by OTAs and volunteers.
- At 12:17 p.m. a fire broke out in an agroforestry area in the region Messinian Transformation. The fire no longer has an active front, while according to sources from Civil Protection it was contained 1 hour ago. 22 firefighters, 9 vehicles, 2 aircraft and 1 helicopter are operating at the site.
- A fire started at 12:19 p.m. in the undergrowth of the Tyrnavo, Thessaly. The fire no longer has an active front as it was contained in minutes while 30 firefighters are working, including 1 group of pedestrians, 9 vehicles and 1 E/P. In addition, local water bodies and project machinery are supported.
- A fire broke out at 12:22 pm in an agroforestry area, in the Tsoliades Kilkis. According to Civil Protection sources, there are some scattered outbreaks and 39 firefighters, 2 groups of pedestrians, 12 vehicles and 1 helicopter continue to operate.
- At 1:13 pm a fire broke out in the undergrowth of the region Agalas Zakynthos. 31 firefighters, with 1 pedestrian group, 15 vehicles, 5 aircraft and 1 helicopter are working to extinguish it, while 18 firefighters with a pedestrian group from the 6th EMODE and 4 vehicles went to the scene by ferry from Kyllini.
- A fire started at 1:25 pm in the region’s undergrowth Galaros Zakynthos.
Local investigation bodies, as well as the Units of the Directorate for Combating Arson Crimes (DAEE) are investigating the causes of the fires.
Finally, the Fire Department appeals to all citizens to take special care and in the event of a fire, for their own safety, to faithfully follow the instructions of the competent authorities.
