Olympiacos have said goodbye to Kostas Fortounis, who leaves the Piraeus club after ten years as captain of the team that won the Conference League.
The international midfielder’s farewell message is signed by PAE’s majority shareholder, Vangelis Marinakis, as a sign of the club president’s appreciation for Fortounis’ abilities and personality.
The message:
“After many years of victories, joys, European nights of greatness, triumphs and titles, but also trials, the time has come to say goodbye to Kostas Fortounis, a footballer who wrote golden pages with his talent in the book of our Legendary History, culminating in the supreme moment of lifting the European trophy with the captain’s armband.
The greatest Greek footballer of the last decade arrived at Olympiakos as a child and leaves as captain, a successful footballer and an excellent family man.
Olympiacos made every effort and went to all the necessary excesses to keep Kostas, but he made another decision and the entire Olympiacos family, which is also his second family, respects his professional choice. And no one in the Olympiacos family should be resentful about this temporary goodbye. Only good words.
Kostas, thank you for the memories and we wish you success, health and all the best in your new football journey. And no matter how far away the seas you have chosen may be, know that you always have a place in the Port of our hearts.”.
