More details on the passing of Joe “Jellybean” Bryant
According to The Philadelphia InquirerBryant “recently suffered a massive stroke.” TMZ adds that Kobe’s father “has recently been battling a health issue.” However, the outlet did not elaborate on the exact issue.
Daily Mail notes that Joe Bryant, like his son, had a “long” NBA career, playing for teams such as the Philadelphia 76ers, Los Angeles Clippers and Houston Rockets.

Additionally, the outlet adds that Bryant’s death comes four years after the deaths of his son Kobe, granddaughter Gianna and seven others. The Philadelphia Inquirer reports that Joe and Kobe were “particularly close during Kobe’s childhood.” However, their relationship grew distant after Kobe embarked on his NBA career.
The outlet adds that Joe has not made any public comments following the deaths of his son and granddaughter, which occurred on January 26, 2020.
