With her marriage over, Kim Plath is returning to her roots: in the water.
In an exclusive clip shared with ET from premiere of the sixth season of Welcome to PlathvilleThe mother of nine takes viewers inside her new home: a 33-foot Chris-Craft boat.
“It’s a cheaper way to have beachfront property,” she says in the new footage.
While it’s certainly a change from the farm and homes she shared with ex Barry, boat life is no stranger to Kim. “I grew up on a sailboat and I loved it, so I bought a boat,” she explains.
As for her daughters — who spend time with her on the boat in the preview clip — she wants them to “see the boat getting a bike trailer, a river and all this natural beauty around them.”
Still, it’s an adjustment for her younger daughters, Cassia, Amber and Mercy, as they maneuver through the cramped quarters — including two beds that double as couches — and take turns using a tiny bathroom. As Kim explains, they also get to use the marina’s more spacious bathrooms, mainly for showering.
“I really worked hard to make the place as livable as possible for them,” says Kim.
Although she and Barry have been separated since December 2021, Kim only recently filed for divorce on June 26th after they got married 27 years ago in 1997.
In the divorce filing, obtained by ET, Kim seeks primary custody of their three minor children, requesting that Barry pay child support.
The ex-husband and ex-wife welcomed 10 children together: Ethan, Hosanna, Micah, Moriah, Lydia, Isaac, Amber, Cassia, and Mercy. Their son, Joshua, died in an accident in 2008 at the age of 17 months.
When They announced their separation in June 2022, the two said in a statement., “Although it wasn’t an easy decision, we know it’s the best choice for both of us.”
Kim and Barry added: “We have been through many ups and downs in our 24 years of marriage and as we navigate this new chapter of our lives, we will be co-parenting our amazing children.”
The new season of Welcome to Plathville premieres Tuesday, July 16 at 10/9c on TLC.
