On Sunday, July 14, Olivia Munn was Instagram to mourn the loss of her friend, Shannen Doherty.
“I am absolutely heartbroken by the passing of Shannen Doherty,” she began her tribute on Instagram.
“When I was first diagnosed with breast cancer,” Munn reflected, “I remembered how she bravely let the world into her journey and reached out to her.”
“We became instant friends,” Olivia wrote of Shannen. “Which I honestly couldn’t comprehend sometimes because watching her on ‘Beverly Hills, 90210’ was everything to me when I was 10.”
She stated: “(Shannen Doherty as Brenda Walsh is, was and always will be an icon.)”
Munn then explained, “We bonded over a shared struggle and a desire to help other women.”

“Looking back at the last message she sent me just a few months ago, she asked how I was and if she could do anything for me…,” she recalled.
“True to form, Shannen was offering her support,” Munn wrote, “even though she was in the final stages of her fight against this horrible disease.”
She then acknowledged: “Cancer is really scary and Shannen faced it with such dignity, strength and grace.”
“I’m sending all my love to her mom,” Olivia Munn expressed. “She was her best friend, hero and champion every step of the way.”
She then concluded her post: “Fly so high my friend.”
Olivia Munn followed those words with a series of broken heart emojis.
Shannen Doherty passed away at home
On Saturday, July 13, Shannen Doherty was at her Malibu home when she passed away. Although she spoke of near-miraculous treatments amid her renewed battle against cancershe always knew that death was a dark possibility.
She spent the last few months of her painful battle with cancer giving solid advice to friendsboth in public and — as Olivia Munn has just attested — in private.
