“Is it possible to have this unique coastline and not be able to cross it from one end to the other?” Kyriakos Mitsotakisat the signing of the contract for the construction of the “Athenian Riviera” project.
He admitted, however, that “perhaps we also had not realized the great difficulties that had to be overcome to transform the project from an idea into a project with financing and an implementation schedule.”
When will the project be ready?
The Prime Minister said that in September 2025 or 2 to 3 months later the project will be ready. “I was reading an article in the Financial Times about the Athenian Riviera. Indeed, the development footprint is very important and not at the expense of local communities,” Mr Mitsotakis noted.
He highlighted that Elliniko is a project that received by the government as an idea and is now in the implementation phase. “We want to make sure that development will not be at the expense of the residents of the region,” he emphasized.
The quality of life in coastal municipalities
Kyriakos Mitsotakis spoke about the importance of the project for the quality of life of all coastal municipalities. “We need more cycle and pedestrian paths in combination with the great emphasis we place on modernizing transport means,” he noted and spoke about the new electric buses in Athens and the density of the routes.
“We will monitor the implementation of the project very closely and we are committed to being here at the opening to race on the bike that I prefer as a cyclist. First and foremost, it will improve the quality of life of residents,” Mr Mitsotakis stressed.
