Video from the pitch shows some Colombian fans fighting in the front rows of the stadium with some Uruguayan fans… when Núñez suddenly climbed over the fence and got involved in the melee.
You can see that Núñez threw a few punches — and ate a few, too. Others threw drinks at the football player. Eventually, some of Núñez’s teammates even jumped in to support their friend.
Fortunately, after a few moments of struggling… security managed to restore order — and the boys returned to the locker room.
After confusion, Uruguayan star Luis Suarez insinuated that some family members and friends of his teammates were involved in the action… which, according to him, triggered the impulsive reactions of the Uruguayans.
“I could see from afar that there were a lot of families and a lot of children of my teammates trapped in that section,” he told reporters. “It’s normal to feel helpless and want to help when they’re having things thrown at them.”
