The most recent episode of The Kardashians showed Kim meeting Gypsy Rose in her hotel room just three weeks after her release, to talk about her case, her time behind bars and — especially Kim — social media.
Gypsy Rose Blanchard was keeping with The Kardashians behind bars.
In the latest episode of the family’s Hulu reality show, Kim Kardashian flew to New Orleans to meet with Gypsy Rose, just three weeks after she was released from prison after serving time for her role in the murder of her mother, Dee Dee.
The conversation was kept under wraps for months, with no one finding out it had occurred until it was teased in the first promo for the new season of Kim’s show. The two bonded over, what else, social media — after Kim posted about watching the 2017 documentary. Useless and Dear Mommy — with Kardashian hoping to speak to Blanchard about one of her passions, prison reform. She also thought Gypsy Rose could be “impactful with youth and abuse,” and felt she could “inform her on where to go and how she can help.”
She also acknowledged that it may be “a controversial topic” for her to help someone “involved in something so violent,” before adding, “but I believe people should have a second chance at life and I take their entire history into consideration.”

After hugging in Blanchard’s room, Gypsy immediately complimented Kim’s coat, before Kardashian wondered what the current parolee had for her first post-release meal. According to Gypsy, it was steak — and it was the first time she’d ever had it. “It was actually really good,” she added.
Kim then went on to say that she’s been following Blanchard’s story for a long time, in an attempt to reassure Gypsy that she wasn’t simply jumping on the “swag bandwagon” now that she’s back in the spotlight. “I recognize that you can make a huge difference too, because you’re able to articulate what you’ve been through and how you can move past it,” she added, before Gypsy thanked her for taking the time to get to know her.
“I give you huge props right now. I think a lot of people are afraid to bring me up as a subject because I’m ‘too controversial,’” Blanchard said. “I give you huge props for being like, ‘Okay, I’m going to do this right now.’”
“I’m blessed to have been given a second chance. As a result of when I was going through what I was going through, no one talked about Munchausen by proxy,” Gypsy continued, speaking about her personal situation with her late mother. “No one was ever a guiding light for me. I look back on things I could have done differently.”

When Kim asked if Gypsy had told her father about what she was going through, Blanchard said she didn’t even have his phone number — accusing her mother of putting “a block on our relationship.” She also said her mother pretended to be her while talking to her father through a fake Facebook account.
“If I had my way again, I could have done things very differently and it could have ended with my mother in prison,” said Blanchard, who believes her mother should be behind bars and not six feet under.
When asked by Kardashian whether or not she misses her mother, Gypsy admitted that it’s a “sophisticated” question. She explained that she would honor her mother while she was in prison by listening to her favorite songs — by Rob Thomas and Matchbox Twenty — on repeat, while allowing herself “time to cry and grieve.” Blanchard recalled feeling “so vulnerable” every time she cried, because the “mean” women in prison, along with her, would respond by saying, “You killed her, why are you crying about it?”

Kim then went on to say that she believes Gypsy’s story can “have such an impact on younger people who may not know how to get out” of horrible situations and be an example of how to move forward.
“I have paid my debts to the state, now let’s look at what I can do with my new life and my second chance,” said Gypsy, who stressed that she was doing her best to make her family proud after her release.
“I know I did something wrong, I paid my dues, but I really feel like half the people are trying to sentence me and the other half are rooting for me,” she shared. “I post a selfie and then I hope I have a better message behind it, and I’m like, ‘I’m just having fun.’”
Having fun with social media is, after all, another one of Kim’s specialties. She gave Gypsy some advice about Instagram, telling her that “you should usually post and ghost and never take note of all the comments and what’s being mentioned.” She added that not every post should have a “deep message” attached to it, including that “the way you live your life moving forward is the deep message.”

As for what Gypsy hopes to focus on after her release, it’s ensuring that inmates are given every possible tool to succeed — including treatment.
“That’s what really upsets me. You guys already know what I’ve been through. After I went to jail, I asked them if I could get treatment and really deal with the trauma I’ve been through. I was told that I wasn’t qualified for individual treatment,” she shared.
Kim was shocked, questioning in a confessional how people can leave prison “rehabilitated” without “giving them the tools and treatment before they come home.”
For Gypsy, this time of re-entry back into the real world has been “a whirlwind,” she said. She went on to say that she and her then-husband Ryan Anderson were being pressured to add her title to the lease on the house they were renting — a problem for her, since she knows she wouldn’t pass a background check. “The system is just built[for us]to fail,” she said, before asking Kim for advice on how to best start her campaign to help others.
“I can completely allow that for you,” she shared, promising to connect Gypsy with all the appropriate people going forward.
“I think she’s an ideal person to speak to a younger age. I hope that with her help, we can bring medicine into more prisons,” she added in a confessional. “I hope Gypsy follows her heart, I hope she heals early and goes on her path to helping others.”
New episodes of The Kardashians air Thursdays on Hulu.
