The economy from UK grew 0.4% in May, according to flash data published by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) on Thursday.
The figure was higher than the 0.2% forecast in a Reuters poll of economists.
The UK economy emerged from a moderate recession in the first quarter of the year and then stagnated in April.
The country’s dominant services sector posted steady growth of 0.3% in May.
Goldman Sachs last week upgraded its UK growth forecast following a landslide victory for the left-wing Labour Party in the July 4th elections.
