United States Marshals Protecting Supreme Court Justice Sonia SotomayorWashington DC homeowner shot a carjacking suspect…and feds say the suspect was armed.
According to legal documents obtained by TMZ, the feds say the shooting occurred early Friday morning around 1:15 a.m. when the alleged suspect, 18, Kentrell Flowersapproached one of the agents parked in an unmarked government vehicle and pointed a gun at him through the driver’s side front window in an attempted carjacking.
Medics say the marshal pulled out his gun and fired four shots through the window at the suspect, with the bullets hitting Flowers in the mouth. A second marshal ran from another car and fired his gun as well, and one of the marshals gave Flowers first aid.
Police said the suspect was arrested and transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Flowers is charged with armed carjacking, carrying a pistol without a license and possession of a large-capacity ammunition magazine … and officers shared an image of a firearm they say was recovered at the scene — a Smith & Wesson .40-caliber, model 40VE.
The feds said the gun had no rounds in the chamber, but there were eight rounds of .40 caliber ammunition in the 13-round magazine.
The location of the shooting is in the residential block of Sotomayor’s condominium… and the Daily Mail was first to report that the officers involved were part of the judge’s security detail.
Our law enforcement sources tell us that carjackings in Washington DC are very common and this incident appears random and untargeted.
It is unclear whether Sotomayor, who was nominated to the Supreme Court by former President Barack Obamawas at home at the time of the shooting.
