Hollywood loves a good exorcism movie, but real people around the world sometimes claim to be possessed by demons… and there are real questions about the authenticity of exorcisms.
TMZ Studios has a new series, “Strange & Suspicious,” now airing on a dozen FOX stations, where we explore stories of the strange, unexplained and downright bizarre, and now we’re investigating the validity of exorcisms.
To take Anneliese Michel in Germany, for example… she was allegedly possessed by a demon, who claimed to have the right to use her body until she “died.”
While many exorcisms take place in private settings—away from the big screen and Hollywood scripts—some take place in church, often in front of the cameras.
Some of these more public exorcisms seem a bit performative… which begs the question: are these people actually possessed or just suffering from mental illness?!?
There are other possible explanations too, some based in science or medicine… but Anneliese seems more legitimate than others, and they’re all pretty creepy.
So what’s the problem here???
We’ll try to answer this and other burning questions in “Strange & Suspicious.” Click here to see when and where the show airs.
