All eyes are on the New Popular Front (NFP) as it searches for the ideal candidate for the post of prime minister.
There are many cases, but for Manuel Bobard, from La France insoumise (Insubordinate France), “the Prime Minister must come from the most important group in the NFP coalition”. That is, the LFI, which has 78 seats, compared to 69 for the Socialists.
Bobard continues to assure that “Jean-Luc Mélenchon is one of the options”. “He has the data for this position” because “he is aligned with the program and has experience in exercising power”. The president of the LFI does not consider it necessary to organize a vote within the coalition, preferring “consensus”.
Rousselle: Macron should let us govern
“The path to government is difficult, but we must try,” said Fabian Roussel, general secretary of the French Communist Party.
Speaking to RTL, Roussel demanded that Macron “let us govern to respond to the problems of salaries, pensions, bills… Our proposals have been presented and costed for several weeks”.

However, he did not reveal who (or whom) the New Popular Front will nominate as prime minister. “The question of Jean-Luc Melenchon was not even raised,” he emphasized. “We need a prime minister who can unite the people and convince the Assembly to obtain a majority,” he explained.
Because without a majority, “we cannot approve a single bill to amend the budget.”
In the end, the communist leader called for popular intervention: “The people must be involved if we want to move forward,” he said, to “put pressure on Emmanuel Macron.”
