Police were called to a report of a person being severely bitten shortly before noon Thursday… but in a later statement from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, they reported that two people were bitten and two others encountered the shark but were not seriously injured.
While the injured man was initially treated on the beach by firefighters and police… police say one of the bite victims was taken to an area hospital, while the other was airlifted for further treatment.
No word on their circumstances.
Based largely on video footage and witness accounts, authorities believe a single 6-foot shark was responsible for the carnage.
Coastal patrol and police patrolled the coast and flew drones after the attack.
According to the head of the SPI fireplace Jim Pigg“The shark was positioned at the southern end of the island and was pushed into deeper water.”
