New Laws That Came Into Effect in California
The new laws address several issues that could significantly improve the lives of Golden State residents, including affordable housing and mandatory date rape drug testing kits. Additionally, there is a bill to make it easier to repair electronic devices yourself.
One bill that’s making the rounds on social media would require service and travel companies to include all surcharges in the advertised price. For example, show fees, cleaning fees at short-term rentals, and resort fees at hotels would have to be shown upfront. There’s also a bill that would prohibit landlords from charging more than one month’s rent as a security deposit. Previously, renters could charge up to three times the rent.
Additionally, nightclubs and bars in Cali will be required to sell or offer testing devices, strips or patches to test the date rape drugs. Additionally, Cali is the third state in the US to pass the Right to Repair Act. This bill states that manufacturers must provide tools, documentation, and parts to repair devices that cost between $50 and $99 for at least three years after the product is manufactured. The period extends to seven years regardless of the warranty period when the item costs more than $100.

@waveologist joked, “Sending jealousy and hate from NJ.”
“The bar test strips are genius. I hope this saves some people from getting drugged,” @aviontheplumber declared.
@nana_montecarlo wrote, “Cali seems to be the best state to live in.”
Roommate @markesha_00 asked, “Now why the hell isn’t he running for president?”
@shortysmalls___ said, “The people who ask why he’s not running for president are definitely not from California. This man has ruined this state. This whole state is wilting because of him and you want him to run the United States.”
What do you think, roommates?
