The Greek colours were left without representation at this year’s Wimbledon, as Stefanos Tsitsipas’ second-round exit yesterday was followed tonight (5/7) by Maria Sakkari’s.
The Greek champion was defeated in the round of 16 (third round) by “local” Emma Radoukanou, who, just like in the semi-final of the 2021 US Open, defeated her opponent 6-2, 6-3 and qualified in the “16” of the London Grand Slam.
Sakkari had a terrible percentage on his second serve (7/26) and many problems on his first (58%), while he was unable to take advantage of any of the 7 break points he had.
Still, she counted 31 unforced errors (compared to Radoukanou’s 13), with the young Brit counting 4/9 break points (two in each set), although she had 15 winners to Sakkaris’ 20.
