The holding of two open-air public meetings announced in the Old Faliro area, a) on Saturday 6 July at 7:20 pm at 30 Poseidon Avenue by members of “El Hero” and on the same day and time 6:00 pm in the Flisvos riverside area by members of the collectives “Initiative of anti-fascists of the southern suburbs and solidarity” and “Initiative of individuals against family pride”, was prohibited by decision of the Director of the Athens Police.
Furthermore, any outdoor public gathering related to the aforementioned gatherings is prohibited from 12:00 to 23:59 on Saturday 6 July within the urban network of the municipality of Palaio Faliro bounded by the following streets-avenues: Andreas Syngrou – Dimosthenes Avenue – Nazliou – Cyprus – Pamphylia – Avenue. Venizelos – Psaros – Agia Sophia – Sokratous – Costi Palamas – Kallikratos – Kountouriotou – Epirus – Amartolon – Lykourgos – Aeschylus – Pythagoras – Ethelonton – Praxitelous – Picrodafni – Poseidonos Avenue – Ioannou Fix – Apollonos Avenue – Floisvos Marina – Floisvos Park – Entrega Naval Park – Andreas Syggrou Avenue.
According to THE GREEK POLICE.a specific prohibition is required, since “the simultaneous holding of these meetings by groups with opposing positions represents a serious risk to public safety and threatens to seriously disrupt the socio-economic life of the specific area, vehicle traffic, pedestrian traffic and public transport, and the functioning of the region’s infrastructure and public facilities”.
Furthermore, the organisers of the two gatherings did not notify the local police authority of their intention to invite the general public to participate, at a specific place and time, in an open-air public gathering as they should have done, in accordance with the provisions of Article 3 paragraphs 1 and 2 of L. 4703/2020 and Article 3 of PD 73/2020, and therefore the procedure prescribed in the legislation in force on open-air public gatherings was not followed.
