Sheryl Lee Ralph is feeling blessed after Hurricane Beryl passed through Jamaica.
O Abbott Elementary School the star took to X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday to share an update, after asking for prayers to the island nation ahead of the storm’s arrival. Ralph and his family are currently in Jamaica ahead of his son Etienne Maurice’s wedding on July 6.
“Looks like Hurricane Beryl is over and running like a Jamaican track star for another race!” the actress wrote. “Thank you all for the good vibes and prayers. We weren’t directly hit and we’re grateful, but Carriacou needs help.”
The post also included a video of Ralph celebrating the “return of peace” at his home in Kingston, on the island’s east coast.
“We have no light, no power. But we have life,” she praised. “We’ve been rubbed in the eye by Beryl, but she’s on her way, somewhere else.”
The ever-musical Emmy winner concluded her video by singing lyrics to Bob Marley“One Love” and hoping for favorable conditions for marriage.
“Oh, thank God,” she said. “I’m praying it’s sunny on Saturday.”
Etienne — who Ralph shares with her ex-husband, Eric Maurice — announced their engagement to ABC News journalist Stephanie Wash last July after two years of dating, and it’s no surprise that they chose to celebrate their wedding in Jamaica.
Although Ralph was born in Waterbury, Connecticut, his mother was Ivy Ralph OD, a beloved Jamaican fashion designer and creator of the Kariba suit. The actress often returns to her home in Jamaica, where she received an Honorary Order of Jamaica in 2022 for her “important contribution as an actress, cultural ambassador for Jamaica and for her contribution to the international film industry.”
