“Kyriakos Mitsotakis reacted initially” and “demonstrated immediate reflexes” in Lefteris Avgenakis casesaid Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis, a day after the removal of the Heraklion MP from ND’s KO
“The video came out in the morning and by noon it had already been deleted, and that was because all the formal procedures of both Parliament and the party were followed,” he said in statements to the television station SKAI.
“In our faction, acts of violence are not tolerated even on air and the phrase ‘I have immunity’ that he allegedly said to the police officer is not only infuriating but also stupid,” he added.
The Health Minister noted that “it is absolutely obvious that Mr. Avgenakis was out of his mind at that moment,” but, as he was quick to add, “there is no excuse.”
Commenting on the opposition’s reactions, he noted: “I do not accept any suggestions from the left. The day before yesterday, Ms. Fotiou was cursing Ms. Kefalogianni in Parliament.
Regarding Lefteris Avgenakis’ refusal to give up his seat, he noted: “I don’t remember many MPs giving up their seat. My opinion on the seat, and I proved this by resigning, is that when you are elected by a faction, the seat is not 100% yours.”
“Ethically, if the party asks you for your seat, you must give it. The Constitution allows you to keep it,” he concluded.
