Simon Biles will have your husband, Jonathan Owens‘ full support as she competes for gold at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France.
The four-time gold medalist shared on Monday that Owens has been given a few days off from training camp with the Chicago Bears so he can attend the highly anticipated event. The women’s team — consisting of Biles, Suni Lee, Jade Carey, Jordan Chiles and 16-year-old Hezly Rivera — begins competing on July 28 in the qualifying round.
“Yeah. The Bears are actually giving him a few days off from training camp, so he’ll be there, yeah, for a little while,” an excited Biles, 27, said when asked if Owens, 28, will be able to see her in Paris.
Owens, who signed a two-year contract with the Bears this offseason after one season with the Green Bay Packers, is scheduled to report to Bears training camp on July 19, just nine days before the women’s team begins competing in the qualifying round. The Bears are also scheduled to play in the Hall of Fame Game against the Houston Texans in Canton, Ohio, on Aug. 1 — the same day the women’s all-around final is scheduled to take place in Paris. Biles is the heavy favorite to reach the finals.
“It’s super exciting that we can be in each other’s elements and support each other’s dreams and goals. It’s these memories that we’ve created that we’ll never get back,” Biles said, referencing Owens cheering her on from the stands during last weekend’s Olympic team trials in Minneapolis, Minnesota. “So any time we can show up for each other and support each other, we’re super excited because our schedules don’t align as much. So any time that happens, it’s really important for both of us to show up and support each other.”
Biles earned the top spot on the women’s team after topping the standings with a score of 117.25. And Owens, wearing a Biles jersey, not only cheered in the stands at Target Center, but he also kept score in the trials. After a photo circulated on social media showing him staring intently at the scoresheet, Owens reacted on his Instagram Story saying, “Confirmed.”
There was also video of Owens jumping to his feet, clapping and pumping his fists in the air after Biles landed to complete her run on the uneven bars. Owens was far from the only one impressed with Biles’ performance last weekend. The one and only Taylor Swift was too. commented on his unparalleled performance.
During the second day of competition, Biles performed a spectacular floor routine that began with Swift’s hit “Ready for It.”
Swift became aware of the video after it was shared on the official US Olympics & Paralympics X account.
“I’ve watched this so many times and I’m still not ready. But she’s ready for this👏👏👏🥇🇺🇸❤️,” Swift responded to the video on Saturday during her Eras Tour in Dublin, Ireland.
With her qualification, Biles, a seven-time Olympic medalist, becomes the oldest American gymnast to compete in the Olympics.
