The US president blamed his lack of energy on being sapped by extensive travel in the weeks leading up to Thursday’s first presidential debate, including a trip to France in early June for the 80th anniversary of D-Day.
Biden told the room, “I decided to travel around the world a few times… right before the debate… I didn’t listen to my team… and then I almost fell asleep on stage”… according to the fundraiser’s accounts.
Remember… Biden went to France the first week of June, flew to California for a big Los Angeles fundraiser on June 15 and then spent a week preparing for the June 27 debate at Camp David.
Biden told supporters he was not offering an excuse, but an explanation… and continued to apologize for his debate performance while also emphasizing the importance of defeating Trump at the polls.

It’s worth noting… the debate started at 9pm and Axios’ national political correspondent Alex Thompson joined us on “TMZ Live” Monday and told us that Biden is sharpest between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. and is prone to mental errors later that day.
Biden is attributing this to jet lag. 🤷🏽♂️
