So it wasn’t just a transatlantic passenger who found himself trapped in the roof of a Boeing en route to Uruguay earlier this week – a child was also trapped there.
Passenger Dr. Cecilia Laguzzi says it’s a photo she’ll always remember… she discovered her 2-year-old son lodged in the ceiling above the overhead bin on Monday’s Air Europa flight UX045 from Madrid to Uruguay… after it hit severe turbulence.
Laguzzi told “GMA” that she woke up to what felt like 6 or 7 seconds of free fall before the plane leveled off. In the ensuing chaos, she began searching for her children, who were sleeping a few seats away, along with her husband, but her youngest son was missing.
She began to search frantically for him — only when someone noticed her panic and said, “Yes, he’s up there,” pointing to the ceiling, did she discover her son, crying and clearly terrified, trapped in the overhead compartment.
Luckily, some of the plastic on the enclosure had been damaged, so she and her husband were able to retrieve it right away. She said her son seemed fine, and overall her family was a little banged up but otherwise OK.

A person on the same flight was lucky to be alive after footage showed fellow passengers helping him off the plane after he was thrown up there in the course of turbulence.
The aircraft was diverted to the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Norte, and the injured passengers were treated at a local hospital.
Needless to say, Boeing has been navigating some rough skies lately, from near misses to tragic fatalities — just like the one in May. death of a person on a Singapore Airways flight that unexpectedly experienced extreme turbulence.
