Eddie Murphy is revealing some recommendations from the late Hollywood icon Marlon Brando gave him throughout his artistic career.
While sitting with The New York Occasions, Murphy-O reflected in his decades-long career in today’s business world, along with time The Godfather the actor instructed him “acting is nonsense”.
“I used to have these famous people that I grew up watching on TV eager to have a meal with me,” the 63-year-old actor recalled of his journey to becoming famous in Hollywood.

“After 48 hours (Murphy’s first film), Marlon Brando calls my agent and wants to meet me,” Murphy said. “Now I look back and say, ‘Wow, that’s crazy: the greatest actor of all time wants to have dinner with you!’ But at the time I just thought, ‘Well, that’s how it is: you make a movie, and Marlon Brando calls.'”
O Buying and selling places The actor actually met the late, friendly Brando twice for dinner — once at the L’Ermitage hotel in Los Angeles and again at Brando’s home.
“He came here and picked me up at the cabin. However, there was a scheduling mix-up, and I got here about a half hour late — he was waiting for me in the car,” Murphy recalled. “We went to his house on Mulholland; I was just hanging out and talking about The Godfatherand he said, ‘Eh, The Godfather.’ Not simply The Godfather — acting. He said, ‘Showing off is nonsense, and everyone can act.’”

Murphy then revealed who Brando despised in Hollywood at the time.
“Here’s how it happened: He was saying, ‘I can’t stand that kid with the gun,’” Murphy added. “I used to be like, ‘What kid with the gun?’ He mentioned, ‘He’s on the poster!’ I used to be like, ‘Clint Eastwood?’ ‘Yes, that man!’ He was calling Clint Eastwood ‘that kid.’”
Brando wasn’t the only reminiscence Murphy shared during the interview. He also shared stories about when he was just 19 and already hanging out with some of the great comedians of the era who are no longer with us.
“I don’t drink. I first smoked a joint when I was 30 — the extent of medicine is a weed,” Murphy instructed the publication. “I remember I was 19, I went to the Blues Bar. It was me, (John) Belushi and Robin Williams. They started doing cocaine, and I was like, ‘No, I’m cool.’ I wasn’t taking any ethical stance. I just wasn’t thinking about it. Not having the need or the curiosity, I would say is a gift. God was looking at me at that moment.”
