The repetition of conversations with the USA announced its president Venezuela Nicolas Madurodespite Washington’s sanctions against his country’s oil sector and less than a month before the presidential elections on July 28.
The Venezuelan president stated that it was Washington that proposed the resumption of negotiations and that Caracas chose to accept after two months of fermentation.
“The conversations are repeating themselves”
“Next Wednesday, negotiations with the United States will resume to respect the agreements signed in Qatar and to restore the terms of a respectful dialogue,” Maduro said in a televised speech yesterday, Monday, according to French Agency.
Caracas and Washington began talks last year in Qatar, agreeing to a prisoner swap.
The United States also eased the oil embargo it has imposed on the country since 2019.
Washington reimposed sanctions in April, accusing the Venezuelan government of not allowing the main opposition leader, Maria Corina Masado, to run for president.
