Technomar Shipping, owned by Giorgos Giouroukos, has received a cybersecurity certificate from RINA.
The company, which manages 97 vessels, including 68 container ships listed on the US stock exchange, has received the “RINA Cyber Security – Verification for Vessels in Service” certificate and has been awarded the certificate. The award ceremony took place at the RINA stand during the Posidonia International Shipping Show last week in Athens.
The ceremony was attended by representatives from Technomar, RINA and Global Ship Lease. Mr. Thomas Lister, CEO of Global Ship Lease, Mr. Paminos Iouroukos, Director of Strategic Planning and Compliance of Technomar Shipping Inc. and Mr. Angelos Karantonis, IT Manager for Vessels of Technomar Shipping Inc. From RINA, Mr. Giosuè Vezzuto, Executive Vice President Marine, and Mr. Spyridon Zolotas, Senior Director Marine Southern Europe and MEA, led the event.
“RINA Cyber Security – Verification for ships in service” is proof of Technomar’s commitment to managing cyber risks with appropriate onboard procedures and technical controls. This certification ensures alignment with the requirements of the International Maritime Organization – IMO, IACS and industry best practices. It is particularly noteworthy because it meets the operational need for ships in service, which will continue to be used for many years, to have a similar level of cyber security protection as newly built ships.
Sir. Paminos Youroukoscommented: “Our customers, such as Global Ship Lease, are increasingly focused on using high-frequency operational data to drive increased energy efficiency and decarbonisation across their fleets. At Technomar, we support these initiatives by proactively upgrading our onboard cybersecurity infrastructure, incorporating advanced technologies and investing in our people to ensure they are well equipped to securely manage the technology and related processes and procedures. Through RINA verification of the processes, we are pleased to confirm and certify the level of security achieved, ensuring that our vessels in service, personnel and operations are adequately protected.”
Michalis Vrettos, Senior Cyber Security Expert at RINA, said: “Cyber security is vital for forward-thinking companies like Technomar, which leverage digital tools to improve operational performance and onboard connectivity. As cyber threats indiscriminately target both active and newly built vessels, it is important that Technomar successfully completed the verification process. It confirms that the company is not only secure in the present, but also well prepared for future challenges.”
