On his first official visit to Ukraine since the start of the war, Viktor Orban asked Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to consider a quick ceasefire that could speed up peace negotiations.

The Hungarian prime minister, who took over the rotating presidency of the European Council earlier this month, said Budapest appreciated Ukraine’s peace initiatives but called for pressure for a ceasefire with the aim of early peace talks.

Zelensky He said Ukraine needs a “just peace” and that Europe should continue its military aid to Ukraine. According to Zelenskiy, the Hungarian leader’s visit highlights “common European priorities, at a time when it is important to have a just peace in Ukraine and throughout Europe.”
Orban also said he intends to improve his country’s relations with Ukraine and sign a comprehensive bilateral cooperation agreement. In the joint interview, Zelensky said the talks between the two leaders in Kiev could serve as a basis for a future agreement between Ukraine and Hungary.
