Married at First Sight New Zealand Star Andrew Jury was found dead in prison late last month, hours before his scheduled court appearance.
Jury, who was 33 at the time of his death, was at Mt Eden Correctional Centre in Auckland, New Zealand, where he was found dead on June 27.
The New Zealand Herald reports that his death is not being treated as suspicious.
“While investigations are ongoing, there is no indication that his death is suspicious,” said Dion Paki, the prison’s general manager. said the Herald in a statement.
According to HeraldThe jury was facing charges of assault with intent to injure, wilful damage and possession of an offensive weapon.
Andrew’s father Roy Jury said the reality star’s family were “stunned” and “deeply saddened” by Andrew’s death.
Andrew, who was arrested on April 2, was reportedly “struggling” in prison.
“It should have been a warning sign when Andy stopped communicating with family and friends,” his father told Herald.
O Herald also shared a collective statement from Andrew Married at First Sight castmates including Brett and Angel Rennall, who were married on the show and are still married, and Benjamin Blackwell.
“It is with heavy hearts that we come together to acknowledge the passing of Andrew Jury,” the reality stars wrote in a now-expired Instagram post (per the New Zealand Herald). “Despite his hardships, Andrew was always friendly and the life of the party throughout our shared experience and he truly valued his time on the show. At this time, our entire cast wishes to send our deepest condolences and love to his family.”
Andrew, a builder, appeared in season 1 of Married at First Sight New Zealand in 2017, where he married Vicky Gleeson-Stokes. His last Instagram post with Vicky was shared in August 2018, writing: “A year ago today I married this sassy girl. We officially lasted a year, wifey! We rock. Here’s another one!!!”
It’s unclear at what point the couple split, but Andrew later posted about being banned from Tinder and his dating life. In September 2020, he posted on Instagram writing: “Yesterday I was signing the divorce papers, today I’m going to court, was I good or bad, who knows?”
